Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer TRT (Testosterone Replacement Therapy)

We offer safe and effective TRT – this is accomplished through proper monitoring and check in’s. Our TRT patients are seen every 3 months.

Do you treat men?

Yes! Men are a significant part of our patient population.

What is Bioidentical Hormone Replacement (BHRT)? Is BHRT Safe?

The simple answer is yes, BHRT is safe. Bioidentical hormone replacement matches the same molecular formula as naturally produced hormones within the body. Once absorbed, the body does not view this formulation as foreign and therefore does not elicit an inflammatory response, as it would with synthetic hormones. In our office, the providers do not utilize synthetic hormones for hormone replacement support.

What are the benefits of BHRT?

Symptom relief is a big driver for many of our patients – depending on your current hormone levels many women benefit from improvement of the follow symptoms:

  • Anxiety
  • Joint pain
  • Insomnia
  • Hot flashes
  • Vaginal dryness
  • Dry skin and hair
  • Brain fog
  • Low libido

Outside of symptom relief, BHRT can help with protection of bones, brain, cardiac and genitourinary health.

How long do I have to be on BHRT?

That depends on your preference. BHRT does not restore natural production of hormones within your body, so replacement is a long term commitment for optimization.

When can I start BHRT? Is it too late to start BHRT?

Initially after starting BHRT, we recommend a follow up in 3 months to evaluate your progress and monitor laboratory studies. Once symptoms and laboratory values are stabilized, depending on your hormone formulation – patients are required to return at either quarterly or semi-annual intervals for refills and evaluation.

How often are labs checked while on BHRT?

Every 3-6 months depending on your specific treatment plan.

Is there insurance coverage for BHRT?

The answer is yes and no. Some insurance plans will cover certain medications but other medications are compounded and insurance will not pay for compounded medicines. Most people pay out of pocket for at least some portion of their BHRT. Finding the right way to incorporate hormones for each patient is personalized, and discussed in depth during your appointments with a provider.

Do people always need hormone replacement?

Not necessarily. While hormone replacement therapy is commonly needed as we age, it depends on why someone is not making hormones. If a patient is deficient in certain nutrients which keep them from making their own hormones, or if there is a medical issue keeping someone from producing their own hormones, we can oftentimes rectify that situation so natural hormone production and balance is more likely to occur.
