Hyaluronic Acid Fillers

Common Uses

Lifts, plumps, and adds structure to the face. Commonly used to eliminate wrinkles, hydrate lips, and replace soft tissue volume loss.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do Hyaluronic Acid Fillers work?
Hyaluronic acid naturally occurs in our bodies—it is a substance that attracts water and helps our skin stay hydrated. As skin ages, facial muscles and fat start thinning, causing sagging, fine lines, wrinkles, folds, and thinning of the lips. By injecting hyaluronic acid fillers in specific areas, we are able to restore volume, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, create facial symmetry, and plump and hydrate lips.

How long does filler last and when will I notice results?
Results of hyaluronic fillers are immediate, although you will potentially have some swelling and bruising to the site of injection.

  • For areas such as the cheeks, jawline, nose, and temples, a thicker filler is typically used and lasts 2 years (sometimes longer).
  • For areas such as the lips and marionette/laugh lines, a softer product is used which does not last quite as long and typically calls for maintenance every 6–9 months.

What does downtime look like?
It is important to keep the area clean and makeup-free for at least 2 days post-injection. It is expected and normal to have swelling and bruising after treatment. Swelling typically lasts 3–7 days. You will see final results about 2–3 weeks after treatment.

Biostimulators

Common Uses

Adds volume to treatment areas and helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by stimulating the body’s own collagen and elastin production. Results appear gradually over a period of a few months as your own collagen and elastin are stimulated. These products are often used to strengthen and smooth skin, reverse signs of aging skin, and treat acne scars by improving the contours of the skin and reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do biostimulators work?
As we age, collagen production decreases. Wrinkles are one of the first visible signs of this. Biostimulatory products are injected into the deep layer of the skin where collagen naturally exists and is made. As the products biodegrade, the body produces new collagen in those areas that have been injected. This stimulation builds up over a period of approximately 4–6 weeks. It is typical to re-stimulate for the best outcome at the 4-week mark.

How long does treatment last?
Some treatments may last up to 2 years after the last treatment session. A gradual improvement of the treated area will happen over several weeks as the treatment takes effect. During initial treatment, it is important to under-correct and not fully correct or over-correct the area. Fully or over-correcting may lead to needing more treatments. You will be scheduled for a 4-week follow-up to identify if a second re-stimulation is needed to achieve the desired results.

How do I know if treatment has worked?
It may appear that treatment has worked immediately because of swelling caused by the injection itself and the water used to dilute Sculptra or Radiesse. This swelling typically resolves itself after several hours to a few days. Visible results will appear slowly as the body stimulates its own collagen and elastin.

What does downtime look like?
Biostimulators typically require minimal to no recovery time. Swelling may last 1–2 weeks.

Threads

Common Uses

Brow lifts, improvement of eyelid heaviness, lifting of the mid face, sharpening of the jawline, improving jowling and tightening the neck, nonsurgical breast lift, defining the lip.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do threads work?

Thinner than a hair and made of protein, the threads are inserted below the skin and are made to elicit our body’s injury response. Our bodies respond to this response by producing structural proteins, resulting in a plumper, smoother appearance and a subtle but visible lift in the skin.

Instead of removing loose skin surgically, the provider is able to suspend the skin by stitching up portions of it. This has the effect of pulling the skin back slightly and therefore lifting and tightening the face and other areas of skin laxity.

How long does treatment last?
Results are visible immediately and continue to improve over time as the threads stimulate collagen production. A series of treatments may be recommended to improve overall skin quality, and annual treatments are recommended to maintain best results.

What does downtime look like?
Threads typically require a 24–48-hour recovery time

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)

Common Uses

Provides a youthful glow to the skin, stimulates collagen production and tightening of the skin improving texture and reducing the amount of lines and wrinkles. It also treats hair loss and hair thinning in men and women.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is PRP? How does it work?
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is a combination of hyaluronic acid and our body’s own platelet-rich plasma. Your blood will be drawn, and PRP will be isolated by spinning the tube in a centrifuge. This “liquid gold” is then mixed with hyaluronic acid to create your own natural product! Activation of the PRP results in at least 8 different growth factors being released. Typically these growth factors are used in the body to heal injured tissue, but in this case, they work to increase collagen and elastin production and promote the growth of new blood vessels (angiogenesis), which improves blood flow to the area and creates a more youthful appearance!

How long does treatment last?
As with many things, each person responds differently to treatment. Most people can expect to see results in about 2 weeks, and maximum results are typically seen in 3-4 months. Results can last for up to 3 years for some people, but most people are recommended to return for treatment in about 12 months.

What does downtime look like?
Threads can require anywhere from 0–2 days of recovery time.

Microneedling

Common Uses

Scar reduction (traumatic scars AND acne scars), decreasing hyperpigmentation, reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines as well as stretch marks. We use SkinPen, which is the only FDA-cleared medical device on the market for this procedure.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is microneedling? How does it work?
During the procedure, the skin is pricked with tiny sterilized needles. The pinpricks from the procedure cause slight injuries to the skin, and the skin responds by making new tissue. This new tissue is rich in collagen and is in turn more even in tone and texture and more radiant.

How long does treatment last?
Some patients are surprised to find that they notice results right away. However, the most dramatic results will not be visible until 4–6 weeks post-treatment as this is the time it takes for your body to create new, strong, healthy collagen.

What does downtime look like?
Redness and sensitivity are usually present 24-48 hours post-treatment.

Is there anyone who should not get microneedling?
The best candidates for this procedure are people who are not breastfeeding or pregnant, and do not have a history of hypertrophic or keloid scars or poor wound healing. Patients who have used Isotretinoin (Accutane) within the last 3 months are not good candidates for this procedure. If you have an active infection or wound present, you are also not a good candidate for this procedure.

Chemical Peel

Common Uses

Hyperpigmentation, sun damage, improvement of skin texture and tone, and lessening the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, dry skin, acne scars.

Peels are a great add-on to any other aesthetic services as they are fairly quick procedures and can aid in giving you that glow you desire!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a chemical peel? How does it work?
During the procedure, chemical agents are used to resurface and at times, remove the top layers of the skin. Chemical peels can be done at different depths to achieve specific results, depending on your individual needs. During the peel, the upper layers of the skin are loosened and will start to peel off over time. Once the top layer of skin has fully peeled away, the new even, smooth, and blemish-free skin is revealed.

What does downtime look like?
Expect a 3–7 day recovery time for a medium peel, and a 2-week recovery for a deep peel.
